planning and production

My addition role

my additional role was to lead acting and vocal warm ups, I think this was very key in the process because there was two of us who don't have much experience with acting or singing. During the rehearsal process we hardly ever did warm ups as a group so I would either do  it at home or I would do it when I get into college. I think warming up your voice is key when rehearsing because you don't know how you will sound if you don't fully warmed up your voice. When we did do warm ups as a group it was good because the dancers knew what they were doing and they didn't need help so that was one less thing to worry about, the only thing they did need a little help with was acting. When it came to acing I think the dancers are AMAZINGG!! at dancing but at the beginning there was no expression of character in the Alice dance. They were so stuck on how to make it like the fairy tale by there characters so I told them to focus on the dance side first then from what you have go from there to then build a persona. I found it hard to help them because Alice and the White Rabbit have no discernible personality so it was hard to tell them what to do to add characters.

the production team sent me pictures of what the stage would look like then asked if any of the other pieces needed anything else

I had to go through both of my pieces with the production students and tell them where i needed different light changes and when im off and on the stage:

and i am telling you
And I am telling you (lights come on, on stage)
I'm not going
You're the best man I'll ever know
There's no way I can ever go
No, no, no, no way
No, no, no, no way I'm livin' without you
I'm not livin' without you
I don't want to be free
I'm stayin'
I'm stayin'
And you, and you, you're gonna love me
Oh, you're gonna love me
And I am telling you
I'm not going
Even though the rough times are showing
There's just no way
There's no way
We're part of the same place
We're part of the same time
We both share the same blood
We both have the same mind
And time and time we have so much to share
No, no, no, no, no
I'm not wakin' up tomorrow mornin'
And findin' that there's nobody there (lights on floor come on)
Tear down the mountains ( I walk down the stairs)
Yell, scream and shout
You can say what you want
I'm not walkin' out
Stop all the rivers
Push, strike, and kill
I'm not gonna leave you
There's no way I will
And I am telling you
I'm not going
You're the best man I'll ever know
There's no way I could ever, ever go
No, no, no, no way
No, no, no, no way I'm livin' without you
Oh, I'm not livin' without you
I'm not livin' without you
I don't wanna be free
I'm stayin'
I'm stayin'
And you, and you, and you
You're gonna love me
Oh, yeah, you're gonna love me
Yes, you are, love me
Oh, oh, oh, love me
Love me
Love me
Love me
Love me   (walks backwards)
You're gonna love (goes on stage)
Me (lights off)

Mr cellophane
(lights on before im on stage)
If someone stood up in a crowd
And raised his voice up way out loud
And waved his arm and shook his leg
You'd notice him
If someone in the movie show
Yelled, "Fire in the second row
This whole place is a powder keg"
You'd notice him
And even without clucking like a hen
Everyone gets noticed, now and then
Unless, of course, that person it should be
Invisible, inconsequential me
Cellophane, Mister Cellophane (spotlight moves)
Should have been my name, Mister Cellophane
'Cause you can look right through me (spotlight moves)
Walk right by me and never know I'm there
I tell ya, Cellophane, Mister Cellophane(spotlight moves)
Should have been my name Mister Cellophane
'Cause you can look right through me(spotlight moves)
Walk right by me and never know I'm there (all lights on but dim)
Suppose you was a little cat
Residin' in a person's flat
Who fed you fish and scratched your ears?
You'd notice him
Suppose you was a woman wed
And sleepin' in a double bed
Beside one man for seven years
You'd notice him
A human being's made of more than air
With all that bulk, you're bound to see him there
Unless that human being next to you
Is unimpressive, undistinguished, you know who
Should have been my name, Mister Cellophane
'Cause you can look right through me
Walk right by me and never know I'm there
I tell ya Cellophane, Mister Cellophane (all lights on bright)
Should have been my name, Mister Cellophane
'Cause you can look right through me
Walk right by me and never know I'm there
Never even know I'm there
(pitch black)
I hope, I haven't taken too much of your time

costume ideas

why did i research costumes ?

  • to help me look at how my character carries themselves
  • to help me find my own costume
  • to look at the style of the time

Tuesday 23rd of April

Today was our first day for the tech week but we did not do anything to intense today what we didn't do a lot today but we did go through the pieces we needed to we just did not do the proper tech run. It was good to go through the pieces in the space and get a feel for the different acts on the stage, running through the pieces was different in the space because its such a bigger area that we have to travel more and use the space more.I also did think about different lights that I wanted to use being in the space really inspired me
i really like the pink slowly turning to purple with the white spotlights and the sparkles i think it would work really well for
and i am telling you

i liked the idea of everything being completely black and then has
a single spot to make it look small and tight for Mr Cellophane

Wednesday 24th of April

today we again blocked through the pieces and tried to make the best of our time as we did not have long till it would be time to perform our show. I was getting a bit worried because there was a lot of feedback on the mics whilst we were performing, I also got worried that you would be able to hear my heavily breathing in the mic because for the You Can't Stop The Beat dance it has a lot of energy and its dancy and we are singing so I found that hard.

Thursday 25th of April +Friday 26th of April

We did a block with lights to start off, the production team wanted to know all the exact ques for the lights so we spent most of the morning blocking the different lights and the different ques for the tech crew. because it is not an actual show/musical the ques aren't easy to remember so we helped the tech crew block then we did a run through on both days. For my piece I think that I need to work on working the stage more in And I Am Telling You I want the audience to feel like they are apart of the scene, so instead of it being that i am talking to one man I am talking to the whole audience

Monday 29th of April

we did another tech run today going through all of the pieces in the space has helped us really get a feel for the theatre space. i also need to start thinking about what makeup i want to use for both of my solos i'm doing a drag inspired look for and i am telling you and then a sad clown for Mr Cellophane, i think a drag look will help me play a character and give the performance i know i can give. I keep trying to sing and i am telling you in the way the original singer sings it and i don't have her voice so i need to find my own way

problem solving

to solve the problem about confidence i need to find my own way to sing it in my own way and i think i keep ducking out of it because im scared that its such a big song that i might not be able to do it

feedback

my teacher told me to sing it more natural and find my own way to sing it

Tuesday 30th of April

Today we did a full run through (in costume) of all the pieces and it was good we were able to go behind stage and go into the dressing room and see how long the different times would be to get ready. sitting in the dressing room i wanted to try different styles of makeup for my different solos I want to see how fast I can do it so that I don't take up to much time.
my makeup for Mr Cellophane was to be a run down clown
i wanted to look rough and not very polished because it helps the song.
i do not usually do makeup so this was a rough start
i wanted to do bold red lipstick with matching eye shadow and a gold
cut crease for and i am telling you

Wednesday 1st of may

Today we did a full dress run with lights and sound and we performed it in front of the tec students so it was a good exercise because the next day was the show. During the dress run there were some technical difficulties but the main problem i had was getting changed in the right time we only had little breaks in between before we had to get our next costume on. there was also added pressure because the day was being filmed and people were taking pictures of the dress run so i felt very nervous. i got worried because i did not have enough time to change so how will it play out in the actual show. I also had a problem with my costume but my teacher said shes going to lend me one of her husbands suits.

problem solving
the only problem I had was to make sure i'm getting changed in time so what i'm going to do is i'm going to get help from classmates to help change because it is hard to do it with the mic.

Thursday 2nd of may

Today was our show we did two shows one for the college kids and then one for our parents, it was a really fun show and I think all of our hard work paid of. We went from having 13 of us to 4 and still put on an amazing show.
