We changed our piece

01/02/2019

Today we decided that we were no longer going to do our original proposal because we think it doesn't show our skills off very well and we were finding it hard to write a script. We were focusing too much on writing the scripts rather than on thinking about demonstrating our skills. Therefore, we decided to develop a new idea, a cabaret performance with a mix of different acts. Today we also decided to do make a new idea, it was to do kind of a cabaret themed performance so it will be a mix of different song and dances in solos, duets and group pieces. Our original idea did not work because we were focusing to much on the script and trying to make it a full play then showing our actually abilities as performers. We all sat down with our teacher and we spoke about maybe changing the idea before we officially did, our teacher said its up to us to decided. I thought we should change the whole thing instantly because I think its going to take to long to perfect it and i know we all liked the idea of having a full musical/play but I didn't want to be in tec week and still be finishing things up. I just thought that it would be easier to just start again and all do our own things because we all have different talents and we cant all show them off to their full potential if we did that idea.

Proposal

Section 1
A review of progress and achievement through parts 1 and 2 of the course: This section provides you with an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarise your progress and achievements through the first 11 units, and the knowledge, skills and understanding you have acquired. What you know now, and what it means to you, compared with what you knew and could do before you started the course, and how this has influenced your choice of discipline or disciplines and your project proposal.  It also provides an opportunity for you to explain your reasons for choosing a particular discipline or disciplines and to outline both your immediate and longer-term aspirations (150 words)

Over the past two years I feel like I have improved in my acting, dancing and singing skills I have done this by pushing myself to work harder and achieve the different thing that I have wanted to do. At the beginning of the first year I came in not knowing how to match notes or sustain different notes . Now I’m at a point where I am happy in my voice and vocal range and I can pick song that suit my voice . I constantly do vocal warmups even when I’m not at college. By the end of unit 12 I want to have developed my dancing skills and I want to do this by going outside of my comfort zone and do harder dances to prove that I can do it. I also want unit 12 to help me with my team working skills because I’m used to doing independent projects.

(Approx 200 words) This section provides an opportunity for you to clearly explain the concept and aims of your project, production or performance, the research and ideas that will support its development, what you anticipate producing, the levels and types of resources that you will need and an indication of the form in which you will complete and present your final realisation within the allocated timescale. This might include an indication of when and how you will use studios, equipment and other resources, how you will make use of tutorial and peer feedback and where you will incorporate independent study

As a group we are proposing to do a cabaret night/show and we are all going to be doing different pieces my solo is going to be two songs Mr Cellophane and And I Am Telling You. I think both of these songs will be good to do because they are both characters that I’m not used to playing and they are both big anthems. I want my piece to make the audience feel how my characters are feeling to do this I will have to research into the different songs and see how different people have done them. We are also doing group pieces that are mainly dance so I think that’s good because I need help with my dance and this will get me on the right track. Whilst I work on my songs I need to also work through acting as well as singing.
Evaluation: (approx 150 words) This section provides an opportunity for you to explain how you will reflect on and evaluate your work, as both an ongoing activity and at the conclusion of your project. You should describe how you intend to record your decision-making and how you will document changes to your ideas as your work progresses. The evaluation should be referenced to your stated aims and be reflective and analytical rather than a description of actions completed. When working in collaboration with others you should comment on how this may impact either positively or negatively and steps you can take to minimise disruption in your own progress.

To evaluate my work I will be keeping constant records of what we have been doing on a daily bases and evaluating how much I have changed from the last time I had rehearsed. I will also be continually taking pictures and videos to show how I have improved in my solo piece and put duets. I also want to set myself goals and targets for each different rehearsal so I can see if I complete them and how thy effect the way that I work. I will also use the feedback that I get to help me better my solo because I may see my piece in a different way to others and their comments can help me with developing my character and overall solo.

Bibliography (Harvard Format):
This section provides an opportunity to record the initial research sources, both primary and secondary, that you intend to use. Your sources of research should be as wide as possible and could include libraries, galleries, books, magazines, films, computer games, websites, blogs, social media, radio programmes, archive material etc. Where appropriate, you should use the Harvard system of referencing. The bibliography should be continuously updated as the project progresses

This section provides you with an opportunity to outline your planning and organisation over a period of weeks and the activities you will need to carry out in order to successfully complete your project in the agreed timeframe.  The more time and thought you give to planning your project the more successful it is likely to be. It is important that you consider how you will balance ambition, time and realism in the realisation of the project. You should also include what you are going to do, how you will do it and by when. Remember to include time taken to source materials/ resources, to conduct research, to seek feedback from tutors and peers and identify when you will carry out independent study.
Week no
Tasks
Notes
1
All sit down and discuss what we are going to do now that we have changed our idea and try to find a way to connect it.

2
Start working on our different solos, duets and group pieces to get a base of what our show will look like

3
Have already started and making sure that we have everything

4
By this stage I want everyone to start showing each other their pieces so we can look at them and help each other what we all have.

5
We should be half way done with all of our pieces and still showing each other and giving each other feedback.

6
Have group pieces done. I think that if we finish the group pieces first then that will help because the group pieces are always the hardest to do.

7
Be giving each other helpful feedback and trying our best to bring it together as a show.

8
Most if not all the pieces should be nearly done by this point because we are over half way and we should be able to be done by that time.

9
We should start doing our own run throughs and have an order that both us and our teachers like. We should also be at a point where we should be completely ready.

10
We should have already thought about costume or already have our costume so by the next week we can do a dress run.

11
We should be doing dress runs and getting ready for what it would be like for our show.

12
At our 12th week we should be READY TO PERFORM!!!! We should be at a point where we can go through the whole show with no problems

13
By this stage we should have run through it all on our own time any different times, I think by this stage we should be ready to perform

Using all of these videos plus watching shows live has helped me come up with
a basic idea of how I want the show to come across to the audience I want them to be shocked
and I want them to feel like they are apart of the show

A cabaret bar is a place where they sell alcohol however in the 1980s a place called the 'Le Chat Noir' opened and poets, performers, artists and compressors would come in and perform and audiences came in for a drink but would stay for the show. because of the clubs success after a while a lot more clubs opened up all over Paris, in the 1900s clubs started even opening up in cities in Germany and France. Cabaret brought about a knew type of vibe to the club scene they would interact with the audience and even started using the audience in the shows. when ww1 was over cabaret became even more popular even more so in Germany because there was no censorship.
